Stanley Park - Not welcome here?

Press coverage seems to indicate, that people in new houses on the old Queen Mary's are opposed to Stanley Park being sited there. No doubt they are not aware that a lot of people opposed their houses being built!

As always this illustrates that on any large sites with phased development, that there should be clear planning polcies making clear what will happen in the other phases. Then people will be less likely to object. This site has had options for housing care homes and a school. There need to be more clarity on these sort of longer-term planning decisions.

Frankly I've no problem with Stanley Park being re-built on the Orchard Hill site. It is ready made for a school given that previously a hospital was located on the site.

Of course residents are opposed but the reason given including drop in propoerty values is not a sufficient reason. For many years this site was for the public benefit and I believe that it can more then accmodate a new Stanley Park school. However, the public tansport links to need to be improved dramatically.

I hope that they do not persue the allotment option

The allotment option seems unlikely to me as it was previously identified for the previous 25 years as a site for a primary school in every planning document issued by the Council. No doubt residents will claim that they never knew this. This is why we need eternal vigilence and blogs like this. To ensure residents know what long term planning commitments there are I will publish all of them on the Policy4Sutton website in due course. Future residents are likely to google this sort of information in any process in future, so no one, Council or resident will have any exceuse in future.

Having children attending Stanley Park High School, I find it rather strange that the education of local children should be compromised by house owners worried only about their property value.

They are perfectly at liberty to vote with their feet and move to a more appropriate location.
