A Bit Heavy Handed - The Freemans get the Chop!!

I'm told that the Lib Dems are planning to remove Julian and Nikki Freeman from the School Governing Body they are on!

I assume they have already been expelled from the Lib Dems for standing against them (which is probably a standard rule for all the national parties), so does it not look a bit heavy handed after that to also remove them from a governing body as well?

They did not advocate support for any other political party, and instead ran as Independents after Julian had the Lib Dem Group whip removed. Parties have generally treated this as a lesser offence than supporting another Party - Ken Livingstone's readmittance to the Labour Party after 3 years is a good example of this.

Perhaps it might help if there were a bit of maganimity from the Lib Dems where it is recognised that the Freeman's and Mr Bunce did poll quite a significant vote in the recent elections

I suspect all this action will do is strengthen the Independent vote in the Worcester Park area as local residents will no doubt see it as vindictive after the event.

Let's hope the Lib Dem leadership secured approval from their own Group Meeting for this action, after all these are LEA appointments?

Of course Master Freeman's outing as an independent did no favours for one former lead spokesperson for Housing on the council. Which may go some way to explaining the liberal democrat attitudes at the moment. I don't get the impression the they are currently greatly blessed with people they can call so leaving Jules where he is may be a safer bet then kicking him off and having someone less capable replace him.

Why do people maintain Blogs when hardly anyone comments/reads them?

Perhaps they simply overestimate their importance.

Just out of interest how do you know how many people have read this blog?

I feel Charlie's blog clearly functions as an opportunity for people to comment on what the council is doing. For those of us interested in such things, its a useful digest and view on what is going on - and if we don't agree, I am sure we can say so.

Even if no one posted and no one read, I would still defend a person's right to run their own blog.

Thank you Anonymous. Presumably you are so important you have to stay anonymous?

Why not turn to page 4 of the Sutton Guardian to see the impact of this local Blog. The item on political assitants was first flagged up here and the lack of comment by the Lib Dems and Tories in the article (they both have a slight mutual interest) I think shows the worth of this Blog.

The news on Carshalton War Memorial (Sutton Guardian, Page 1) was first flagged up here as well.

Its funny a few weeks ago, I kept hearing local politicos saying, "sorry to see you go". However the implied contract of that statement seems to be that you are meant to retire and just get letters about the Annual Civic Service.

Funnily enough I was a local community activist for 6 years before I got on the Council, so all I am now doing is continuing what I did prior to 1986. Do I detect some people don't like that?
